I don’t know about you, but one of the most frustrating things about teaching students to write essays is the plagiarism problem. For whatever reasons, my students continue to plagiarize when writing essays and reports. It’s sooooooo frustrating. That’s why I was so excited and grateful to find Christine Helwig’s lesson about plagiarism. I was surfing the web checking things out the way I do, when I came across her lesson plan on Lessonplanspage.com . I am definitely going to use her lesson. Christine’s lesson includes an excellent handout called Plagiarism:What It is and How to Recognize and Avoid It. Check it out the like. It’s a winner. Thanks Christine. I plan to share this with my colleagues at work.Since my motto is trust but verify, I still will have my students submit their essays to Turn It In for verification. If you don’t know about this program check it out. We use it at our school and find that it does help because students have to submit their essays for clearance and are afraid they will get caught if they cheat. The program checks a student’s essay against what’s on the Internet and identifies any plagiarism. Students have been caught and the word does spread.
If anyone else has found a way to deal with the problem of plagiarism, I would appreciate hearing about it and I will share it here.Related Posts
