I’ve just found the coolest way to amuse my curious mind. I stumbled upon Stumble-Upon. Some of you no doubt are already familiar with StumbleUpon and know what a serendipitous find it is. Visit the site and you’re told
StumbleUpon helps you discover great websites.
With a single click of the Stumble button you will
find cool sites matched to your interests.
It’s true. StumbleUpon asks you what you’re interested in, and then when you click on the link in your toolbar you’re in for a wonderful surprise: a site that matches your interests appears. Click ten times and ten different sites appear. I love it. I’ve selected about twelve different interests so that when I click StumbleUpon I’m never bored because I ‘m served such an eclectic mix.
StumbleUpon gave me this site about study skills. It looks very promising and no doubt I’ll be incorporating some of these strategies into my existing study skills package I give my students.
Earlier Todd generously shared an essay writing strategy that works for teaching kids how to write essays. I’m definately going to try it.
I’ve a handout to share that I use to help my students get their thinking organized when they start a new asignment. I’ll post it here. assignment planning sheet Feel free to adapt it for your own purpose. Let me know if it was helpful. Thanks

I Wish I Had Said That

Let the politicians have their splashy reading reform initiatives; or the new superintendents their flashy powerpoint presentations on how they will move schools farther and faster than ever before. Real change happens one teacher, one student, one coffee cup at a time. We see words that matter, and we find a way to pass them on. And slowly, what we all believe about kids, literacy, and learning changes. Literacy activism and good coffee – now there’s a combination worth savoring. Keith Mastrion, “Reading Man” and 1998 National Teacher of the Year
Amen to that!

It’s My 100th Post-I Think I’ll Issue A Stamp
Filed Under Blogging in and out of the Classroom, The Way I See It | 2 Comments
This is my 100th post since I started my writing my blog back in August. Wow!!! I can hardly believe it. 100 posts already. I know that some of you are probably sitting there reading this and thinking and so. I’m not exactly sure why I’m so excited about it myself, but perhaps it’s because I’m a teacher and teachers usually get quite excited by the number 100.
I feel like I should celebrate, but what to do? Fireworks would be good. But right now it’s -7 Celsius outside and snowing like crazy, so fireworks is out. What else do we do in Canada to celebrate special occasions? I know- we issue new postage stamps. Canada’s always issuing stamps to celebrate something. I just bought a stamp the other day that was issued to honour the Year of the Pig. I could issue a postage stamp. Yah, that would be cool- a postage stamp to honour bloggers. I’ll just go on line…Hey wait a minute. Maybe not. A postage stamp for bloggers? Isn’t that an anachronism? I guess I’ll just have to blow my own horn.

“Add Your Comment -JoinThe Fun!”
Filed Under Blogging in and out of the Classroom, The Way I See It | 1 Comment
At the end of his posts, Todd invites readers to “add your comment-enjoy the fun!” That’s exactly what I’ve done. I’ve added my comments, and Todd’s right. I am enjoying the fun. I think Todd and Dan are enjoying the fun, too. I always find it interesting to hear what other people have to say on a given topic. There’s nothing like a good discussion with adults after a day spent talking to teenagers.
